Carpet, nursery, and baby

Our entire apartment is hardwood floors with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom which are tiled. I love the look of hardwood but it's not very cozy. Two weeks ago Edward and I found a large area carpet (12' x 11') at Home Depot for an excellent price. We drove it home sticking out the back of the explorer, Edward nearly broke his back hauling it up the stairs, and after hours of moving couches, tv, etc, we got the carpet all unrolled to find a large gray line down the middle of it. After Edward went through all this work (I merely supervised and cleaned the dog hair/dust behind and under the couches) there was no way we were going to bring it back. There was also no way I was going to let this slide. I took photos of the stain and Edward and I went back to Home Depot this last weekend and got $50 back, making the final price an absolute steal. I resolved the heck out of the stain and it is barely visible now. We love our new carpet, Piper, too, and I'm sure the baby will appreciate having a soft place to crawl around.

Light colored carpet + black dog (who sheds a ton) = not good! Fortunately I have an excellent vacuum that now gets a daily workout.

The stain, which is mostly gone and covered by the ottoman anyway.

We've been working quite a bit on the nursery. We'll, I should say "I've" been working on the nursery. Edward did the painting but the rest has been my project. It's not together enough to show pictures of the entire room, but I'll post some snippets so you can get an idea of what it looks like.

This is not an accurate representation of the paint color. It is much more vibrant and lime colored than this pictures shows. I tried different flash settings on my camera but couldn't capture the true color.

Quilt in progress. This will hang on the wall.

This is part of a much smaller quilt that I made using some leftover fabric. This will not hang on the wall.

The two pictures above are part of wall art that I am working on. Can you guess what it is? Probably not. I stole the idea from Pottery Barn Kids, however I think I greatly improved upon what they did. I'll post pictures of the final project when it is complete.

Super cute bumper from Jane and Jim, Edward's parents.

Piper hanging out in the nursery. We still have a copier and desk in the room (on the right) which we need to remove. I'd also like to get a small area carpet.

Baby's tiny wardrobe

Baby Shuman (who is still nameless) weighs a little over 3 pounds and is about 17 inches long. He's almost reached his full length but his body weight will double to triple over the next ten weeks. Sunday night I had my first Braxton-Hicks contraction. My stomach got real hard and I was a little uncomfortable for a minute or so, but no big deal. If only real labor were like that! Another new feeling for me is baby hiccups! I started feeling them about a week ago but it didn't dawn on me until last night what I was feeling. It feels like small little kicks in a rhythmic pattern. I thought my stomach was twitching but after some googling it makes perfect sense that the baby has the hiccups.

Overall I am feeling great. My back pain has subsided quite a bit, although it hurts to go from a lying position to sitting. Heartburn has returned a bit, but nothing too bad. I had a glucose tolerance test last week and haven't heard from the doctor so I'm assuming I do not have gestational diabetes. I have another routine doctor's appointment tomorrow and what I am *really* looking forward to is our 3D/4D ultrasound appointment on Tuesday. My parents are coming up for that.

Check back for ultrasound pictures next week!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Two years ago today Edward made me the happiest girl in the world when he flew to Mexico to ask me to be his wife. I was on a family vacation and surprise!--Edward shows up! One of the best days/weeks of my life!

Shortly after Edward's arrival and proposal. Off to share the news with the family!
Tears of joy

I can't believe it's been two years already. Time flies when you're in love!

The Final Stretch

Saturday I hit 27 weeks which now means I am in the third and final trimester. Our due date is exactly three months from today! The baby is still very active and now I can feel his head/tush pushing out from my belly at times, and sometimes his whole body sort of shifts to the front of my belly (making it feel very hard), and then shifts away--a very strange feeling!

My only complaint at this point is my back. I hurt my back in mid-January rescuing Piper from a 100 pound German Shepherd. The first few days after it happened I was really hurting, but now I just have a dull pain in my lower back and walk with a bit of a limp. It's bearable, for sure, but I really hope I'm not limping for three more months. I have been using a heating pad but that doesn't seem to help much. My hobbies include hunching over a pottery wheel or a sewing machine for hours at a time which doesn't help either.

Today is our second day of warmth and sunshine here in New Haven. I think we broke 50 degrees yesterday and today it's in the low 40s but still feels quite balmy compared with the weather we were having. Now hopefully all this icky snow and ice will melt away.

NYC

Edward and I spent a delightful weekend in NYC. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square (thanks, Mom and Dad!), saw Shrek on Broadway, and ate and ate and ate!

Edward studying the map on our train ride to the city.

Lunch at the Renaissance Hotel in Times Square.

I had the most wonderful crab cakes. Huge chunks of crab and none of those yucky bits of peppers.

An incredible view of Times Square from the restaurant.

Set of Shrek. I'm usually not crazy about kids' movies gone Broadway but this was actually really cute. Sutton Foster played the adult Fiona and did an excellent job.

Chandelier in "sparkle" setting.

Dinner at Becco, an Italian restaurant owned by Lidia Bastianich. Mormor and I used to watch her cooking show on tv back in the day. This was pretty tasty as well, but unfortunately we were still quite full from our large lunch.

Belly photos

I've always enjoyed looking at other people's pregnant belly shots although I'm a bit hesitant to post my belly for all to see. Edward took lots of pictures the first trimester when there wasn't must growth, but now at almost 27 weeks there is definitely a baby bump. Without further ado, my growing belly...

(Many of these pictures were taken 11pm or later when I was half asleep or had already been sleeping on the couch.)

Day we found out we were pregnant
