Romper/JonJon/Shortalls/Overalls

Whatever you call them, I made Nate a pair, well two actually. I made the first pair out of red seersucker and they turned out fine except they were way too big. I had read several online reviews of this McCall's pattern and people said it runs small so go up a couple sizes. I made a size 4 and the length was okay but it was really wide, ridiculously wide, like Nate was swimming in a pool of red seersucker. I tried taking it in a bit but it's still looks silly so I think for $4 of fabric and an hour of time I'll just make a new one (maybe next summer Nate will be short and fat and can wear the old one!). For the second romper I used this madras from Joann's. I had seen it awhile ago and have been waiting for the right project and for it to go on sale before I bought it. I made a size 2 so it wouldn't be so wide, but then I also lengthened the pattern so it would fit in the crotch. It's a perfect fit.

A rare treat

Lunch at McDonald's!

He started by dipping the fries into the ketchup...

But then realized his finger worked even better! Why waste room on the fries when you can fill up on ketchup? (Don't worry, no precious fries were wasted during this outing)

Gathered clutch

I've been wanting to try this gathered clutch tutorial for some time now, not that I have any need for such a tiny bag these days, but I just wanted to see if I was capable of making it. Last week while Nate was napping I got to work and was determined to finish before he woke up. It took the full two hours that he slept, but most of the time was spent just reading the tutorial and figuring out what I was doing, not actually sewing. It turned out okay but there's certainly room for improvement. If I made it again I think I could do a much better job.

I have an ever growing list of over 25 bookmarked tutorials that I hope to try so as I try them (and if they are halfway decent) I'll post the results.

Garage sale find

I found this step stool at a garage sale (or "tag" sale if you're from CT) for $2. I gave it a couple coats of spray paint and it's good as new. Hand washing is much easier now!
