On Saturday we went to The Big E, the Eastern States Exposition, in Springfield, Massachusetts. It's one of the largest agricultural fairs in the country and has more animals, exhibits, rides, and delicious food you could imagine. Over a million people attend in the two weeks it's open. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and despite the crowds (it became a mob-scene mid-afternoon) we had an excellent time.
Sorry Dad, but we had to check out the Budweiser Clydesdales.
As far as food, there was anything you could want (unless of course you wanted something healthy)--corn dogs, friend dough, funnel cakes, caramel apples, kettle corn, cotton candy, chili, huge stuffed potatoes, french fries, crab claws, the Big E cream puffs and eclairs, pizza, burgers, etc.
Butter sculpture. The sculptor had been working on it for two weeks and we saw the final product.
600 pounds of butter!
row upon row upon row of animals
Naked sheep shivering in the corner
aww!
excited about funnel cake
no perspective in this picture but these were enormous
hatching chicks
such a neat freak. he stopped at every spot on the road and tried to wipe it away
Avenue of States--scaled down replicas of state houses of 6 northeast states
Edward wouldn't let us ride the elephant but we got a close-up look at him.
Nate's favorite part of the day (besides the funnel cake) was watching all the amusement park rides.
It was so crowded by the time we left that it was no longer fun. I could hardly maneuver the stroller around the hoards of people. We had had enough anyway so we headed home. Unfortunately Piper couldn't handle us being gone that many hours and had diarrhea all over the carpet. Thanks, Piper!
